Age Verification Policy

Last updated: June 27, 2026

GetBotl's two-layer age verification system is built into the architecture of our platform — not bolted on as an afterthought. Every delivery is an opportunity to protect our communities.

Section 1

Our Commitment

At GetBotl, age verification is not a compliance checkbox. It is a core architectural pillar of our platform, designed from day one to prevent alcohol from reaching minors. We believe that the privilege of delivering alcohol comes with an uncompromising obligation to verify that every recipient is a legal adult.

GetBotl operates a mandatory, two-layer age verification system:

1

Digital Pre-Verification

One-time at account creation. Government ID plus real-time selfie. Processed by a certified third-party verification partner. Prevents unverified users from ever placing an order.

2

In-Person Door Verification

Required on every single delivery, regardless of pre-verified account status. Couriers check physical ID at the door before handing over any order. No exceptions.

This dual-layer approach ensures that even if account credentials are compromised or shared, alcohol can only be physically received by a person who can present a valid ID proving they are 21 or older. Our system is fully compliant with New York ABC Law and the requirements of our retail partners' NYSLA licenses.

Section 3

Digital Pre-Verification (Step 1)

Before placing their first order, every GetBotl user must complete a one-time digital identity verification process. This cannot be skipped, bypassed, or completed after placing an order.

The Verification Process

Step ASubmit a clear photograph of your government-issued identification document
Step BComplete a real-time selfie capture for liveness detection — this confirms you are a real person present during verification, not a photo of a photo
Step COur certified verification partner processes your submission, confirming: identity match, document authenticity, document validity (not expired, not forged), and age 21 or older

The following identification documents are accepted for digital pre-verification:

  • U.S. Driver's License (all 50 states and territories)
  • U.S. State-Issued Identification Card
  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card
  • U.S. Military Identification Card
  • U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) with visible date of birth

The following are not accepted at this time:

  • Student identification cards, regardless of institution
  • Foreign passports (during our initial launch phase — we will expand acceptance in future updates)
  • Expired identification documents of any type
  • Digital or photocopied versions of identification documents

Your identity verification data is encrypted in transit and at rest, processed by our certified verification partner under strict data processing agreements, and never retained in unencrypted form by GetBotl. For full details on how verification data is handled, see our Privacy Policy — Age Verification Data section.

Section 4

In-Person Door Verification (Step 2)

Digital pre-verification establishes that an account holder is 21 or older. In-person door verification ensures that the person receiving the delivery is that verified account holder — or another eligible adult — on the date of delivery. Both layers are essential.

In-person door verification is required on every single delivery, without exception. Pre-verified account status does not reduce or eliminate this requirement.

What the Courier Checks

  • That the recipient presents a valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification document
  • That the name on the ID reasonably matches the name on the GetBotl order
  • That the date of birth on the ID confirms the recipient is 21 or older on the actual date of delivery
  • That the recipient does not appear to be visibly intoxicated (couriers are required to refuse delivery to visibly intoxicated persons)

All GetBotl couriers complete mandatory alcohol delivery compliance training before their first delivery. This training covers New York ABC Law delivery requirements, age verification procedures, document identification techniques, lawful refusal protocols, and return procedures for failed deliveries.

Couriers are acting agents of the licensed retail partner at the moment of delivery. By law, they have full authority — and obligation — to refuse delivery if they cannot verify the recipient's age and identity. Their decision to refuse a delivery is final and is backed by both law and GetBotl policy.

Section 5

Failed Verification

If in-person door verification cannot be completed, the courier is required to refuse the delivery and return the order to the retail store. The following process applies to all failed deliveries:

  • Delivery Refused: The courier declines to hand over the order and returns the products to the originating retail store.
  • Order Returned: The products are returned to the retail store's inventory in accordance with NYSLA regulations.
  • Refund Issued: The consumer receives a refund for the product price minus the $3.99 delivery fee, processed within 3–5 business days.
  • Account Review: Repeated failed deliveries associated with an account may trigger a review and potential account suspension pending investigation.

Couriers have full legal authority to refuse delivery for any reason they determine to be a verification concern. Interfering with, threatening, or attempting to coerce a courier into completing a delivery constitutes a violation of GetBotl's Terms of Service and may constitute a violation of New York Penal Law. Such incidents will be reported to law enforcement.

GetBotl tracks all failed verification events and cooperates fully with NYSLA and law enforcement investigations arising from suspected attempts to use the platform to purchase alcohol for minors.

Section 6

Merchant Compliance

GetBotl's retail partners share responsibility for age-compliant alcohol delivery. All merchants on the GetBotl platform are held to the following standards:

  • Valid NYSLA License: All Merchant Partners must hold a valid, active NYSLA off-premises license at all times while operating on the GetBotl platform.
  • License Confirmation: Merchants confirm their license validity during onboarding and are required to immediately notify GetBotl of any change in license status, NYSLA investigation, or enforcement action.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: GetBotl monitors the license status of all Merchant Partners against NYSLA public records on an ongoing basis.
  • Expiration Alerts: GetBotl sends automatic alerts to Merchant Partners 90 days before their NYSLA license expiration date, providing ample time for renewal.
  • Immediate Suspension: Any Merchant Partner found to be operating on an expired, suspended, or revoked license will be immediately suspended from the GetBotl platform. Delivering alcohol on an invalid license is a serious regulatory violation that GetBotl will not facilitate.

GetBotl is committed to being a platform that enhances, rather than undermines, the regulatory framework governing alcohol sales in New York State. We view our merchant compliance program as a service to our retail partners, helping them maintain the good standing they need to operate their businesses.
